How to back up a database
Regular backups of the coDiagnostiX database are strongly recommended, since backups do not only save from losing sensitive patient data when the computer's hard disk drive is damaged but also help to keep users from unwanted results when updating to a new main version.
A backup of the database can be done by creating a copy of the database folder using Windows explorer.
This also allows the user to configure scripted backups. The default database path is C:\ProgramData\Straumann\coDiagnostiX\Database
(Vista/Win 7) or
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Straumann\coDiagnostiX\Database
(Windows XP). In order to create a backup of the database, follow these steps:
- Find the current database directory path. This is usually done by clicking
coDiagnostiX Management
in the coDiagnostiX start screen and selectingChange database
from theFavourites
or theDatabase
menu. The current database path is displayed in the upper text field. Alternatively, for example when coDiagnostiX can't be started, the path can be read out of the database configuration file. Open the fileB3DDB.ini
by double clicking it in the Windows Explorer. It is located inC:\ProgramData\Straumann\coDiagnostiX\
(Windows Vista/7) or inC:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Straumann\coDiagnostiX
(Windows XP). Hint: Some of these folders are hidden folders. To make them visible, either copy the path for the corresponding Windows version into the Windows Explorer address bar or use the Windows Explorer menu Folder and Search options to enable the option Show hidden files, folders, and drives in the View tab. - Open the current database path in Windows Explorer. The easiest way is to copy the path from the coDiagnostiX Management text field or from the
B3DDB.ini
file directly into the address bar of the Windows Explorer - Right click the database folder and select
Copy
- Go to the folder where you want to store the Backup, right click on a blank space and
Paste
the folder to create a copy
